Narooma, New South Wales

From one scenic coastal NSW town to another, we moved on to Narooma which also happens to have an awesome new mountain bike trail network. We originally drove through the town centre and planned to free camp near to the trail head in Dalmeny. After seeing how pretty the town was and the location of the Big4 caravan park, we decided to head back to Narooma and stay at the park. It’s located right on the Wagonga Inlet, next to shops and eateries and has plenty of places to walk and explore.

We spent the afternoon wandering around Narooma and Dalmeny, coming across some impressive dive bombing from the local bird life!

To make sure we rode as many trails as we could at Narooma, we booked a half day of shuttles. The shuttles were short and sharp, not like what we are used to in Tassie. Less than 5 minutes to the top, jump off, pick a trail and 5 minutes down on the bike. Repeat! We were able to do 7 runs, which was all the gravity trails except the one double black. The trails were pretty fun, but don’t have the interesting features like we have. We had a good day out on the trails.

Deciding we had better use our legs, we went back this morning and rode some of the loops in what they call “The Playground” area. Basically, a reasonably easy climb to the top and then a selection of trails to ride down. Again, the weather has been super kind to us with little wind and warm temperatures in the low 20’s. It would be wrong to not have a swim in the pool and get our money’s worth out of the Big4! Such a beautiful looking pool….pity it was freezing! Luckily a dip in the indoor spa straight after warmed us back up.

We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring more of Narooma, including a visit to Australia Rock. A rock feature that looks like a map of Australia with no Tasmania! I highly recommend Narooma. Beautiful place.

It’s 4 weeks today since we left home on the Spirit. Life on the road is the new normal and we are loving it!
