Moruya, Mogo & on to Bateman's Bay

Emma

Apr 30

After leaving Narooma we headed off only 50km north to Moruya. We were welcomed by my old HRD boss, Andy and his wife Amanda. We were very grateful to pull up on their beautiful property in a relaxing bush setting for three nights. We had the best time catching up with them and were welcomed by all the family including the fur babies! Sunday night family roast made by Amanda was a definite highlight!

It just so happens that just 15 minutes away from Moruya in a little place called Mogo, there is a 130km network of mountain bike trails being built by our Tassie trail builders, Next Level Mountain Bike owned by our good friend, Marcelo. Although none of the trails are open yet, we scored a gold tier tour of some that have been completed. Ruben and Micah took us on a 40km tour with a stop for lunch at the Mogo Botanic Gardens Café.

Again, it was nice to see some familiar faces and we had a great day out. They have all done an amazing job with the trails that we saw, and I think the locals are going to be blown away. It’s also recently been announced that this trail network will host the first Australian Sea Otter MTB Festival in October 2025. Maybe we will have to come back!

After our big 40km day out riding, to say we were tired would be an understatement, so needed a couple of quieter days to recover. We did a short walk around the Broulee Island Nature Reserve. There is no walking track, so you just walk on the rocks and sand to get all the way around. There was a nice, sheltered bay called Shark Bay that looked pretty inviting for a swim, but we decided that ice cream was a better recovery than swimming! Other than that, we sat on the deck and watched Andy zip around on the ride on lawn mower!

We farewelled our amazing hosts this morning for another short trip to Bateman’s Bay. We have the car booked in to the Mitsubishi dealer here tomorrow and it will be a relief to have that fixed. We have a waterfront site on the Clyde River at the Big4 caravan park. Not complaining about this setting at all!

Another enjoyable few days made even better by catching up with familiar faces. Thanks again Andy, Amanda and family for your hospitality and to Ruben and Micah for the gold class tour of Mogo!
