Jervis Bay to Port Macquarie

Emma

May 5

Firstly the major news is the car is now fixed! It makes the driving a bit more relaxing, that’s for sure. Thanks Sandra from Batemans Bay Mitsubishi 😊. We had a day to kill in Batemans Bay while the car was being fixed and the weather turned a bit cooler, but it was fine enough to wander around the town, have a nice lunch on the water and do a bit of shopping. Still wearing shorts so shouldn’t complain!

Our next move was on to Jervis Bay. Unfortunately it was showering on and off the whole time we were there, but even with grey skies it’s such a beautiful place. Maybe we’ll have to go back 🤔. We explored around the Boodoree National Park in Jervis Bay, including Cave Beach, Hole in the Wall Beach and Hyams Beach. I got my up and close fix with the roo’s at Cave Beach campground. It really is a beautiful area.

The Holiday Haven White Sands caravan park was immaculate and the best spot to be in wet weather. NSW has obviously had a lot of rain because everything is so wet. And now we are getting more! That’s not in our plan obviously 🙄.

After a morning bike ride along the coastal pathway at Jervis Bay we took off on a big day of travel and landed at Lake Macquarie for the night, heading off to Port Macquarie the following day. It wasn’t until I called to book a site in Port Macquarie that we realised the Ironman Australia Oceania Triclub Championships were on! The downside to winging it, I guess. So we settled for a park at Rainbow Beach in Bonny Hills which is just south of Port Macquarie. Amazing views and location right on the beach, even waking up to watching a surf competition outside my bedroom window!

We thought we might ride the Jolly Nose MTB trails, but everything was so wet and we just wouldn’t enjoy it, so went to Port Macquarie and watched some of the Ironman championships and enjoyed the atmosphere of the buzzing city. The sun even came out! We loved Port Macquarie and would consider coming back for sure.

We’ve had 4 days of rain. It feels like more and there is more to come. There is always something to do but unfortunately the bike riding isn’t the focus right now. We are being "normal" tourists!

Moving on tomorrow. I won’t say where because knowing us it will change! After a couple of wet and slushy campsites we plan to treat ourselves to something 5 star….hopefully!
